Gastrointestinal Health
Dr. Nikki believes that the “gut” is at the center of all health as it is the foundation for which the body relies on in all aspects of our health. Hence, dealing with the gut is essential to achieving long term health goals. Dr. Nikki places a huge emphasis on attaining sound gut health and is very adept at treating many conditions having to do with the gastrointestinal region. Some of these conditions involve: Candida overgrowth, Leaky gut, Parasitic infections, Bacterial infections and toxins like H. pylori, E.coli, C. difficile, and other conditions like SIBO, IBS, Crohn’s, Colitis, and more…
Hormone Health (Menopause, Male hormones, teen hormones imbalances)
Whether you are going through Menopause or Andropause (Dr. Nikki calls it Man-o-pause) or have a teen struggling with hormone imbalances, Dr. Nikki works to get to the root of the hormonal issues, and help people find balance within their bodies. She is able to achieve this through the use of bio-identical hormones, herbs, supplements, diet and nutrition, etc. She works with you to determine what would best work for you and get you to a place where you not only feel good- but can thrive.
Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle non-invasive hands-on therapy that feels for restrictions throughout the body and for Dr. Nikki this often involves working with the energetics of you- the person, as well. She works to identify the areas within the body that need energy guidance, releasing, rebalancing, reconnecting or disconnecting – so that healing can occur in whatever capacity the body, mind, and soul needs (not just on physical plane). Craniosacral therapy is often used by Dr. Nikki’s patients as a way to compliment and support all the physical work (lab testing, stool testing, etc…) that has already been put into their journey to healing…achieving a very “wholistic” approach. Cranio is truly beneficial for anyone but in particular, can be very helpful for those people who struggle with anxiety, depression, grief, “feeling stuck”, are highly stressed, suffer from headaches and other things related to pain, and are simply in need of relaxation.
10 Immune boosting foods/supplements for colds and flu
By Dr. Nikki Arguinzoni-Gil, ND
1) Vit C – Great for the immune system and it can help with the prevention of getting a cold or virus. It also is a major anti-oxidant! (Special note- Be sure to spread your vitamin C dose throughout the day as it is water-soluble and we urinate it out of our system quite quickly. Example- 1,000mg 3 times throughout the day as opposed to all at once.
2) Zinc - Is an essential mineral that is huge for boosting the immune system. It does an amazing job on not just preventing colds and flu, but it also speeds up your recovery time when you are in the middle of dealing with a cold/flu.
3) Vitamin D - Vitamin D is great for boosting immunity and helping with fighting acute respiratory infections. Research suggest that taking a weekly or daily supplement of vitamin D has shown to decrease a person’s risk for getting an acute respiratory infection, a cold, or the flu. Remember to do your Vitamin D with a fatty food for best absorption as it is a fat soluble vitamin.
4) Echinacea- Echinacea- is my favorite herb for dealing with cold and flus and upper respiratory issues. It enhances the immune systems resistance to infections. It is anti-viral, anti-microbial, anti- inflammatory. Taking Echinacea at the first sign of a cold can be of huge benefit, stopping the progression of the cold or flu nearly right away. It is my go to for prevention and treatment of the cold/flu and is something I recommend to my patients all the time. My absolute favorite Echinacea supplement is A Vogel’s Echinaforce. This particular extract of Echinacea is singly the most researched in the world. They use organically certified Echinacea purpurea that is made from a whole plant extraction and their product also can be used by both pregnant women and women who are breast feeding.
5) Eucalyptus oil - Works well for reducing chest congestion and other cold and flu symptoms. It is a great anti-fungal, anti-spasmodic, anti-septic, and anti-bacterial remedy. It helps with the loosening of phlegm and moving it out of the airways and is also great for muscle pain whether you are recovering from intense exercise or trying to get muscle pain relief from the flu.
6) Goldenseal - It’s nature’s antibiotic and a great immune booster. It has many wonderful properties which include being anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial. It is great for reducing inflammation and infection of the mucous membranes, killing off bacteria and unblocking clogged sinuses. Goldenseal and Echinacea in combination are a very effective herbal combination for treating the cold and flu, but they are especially a fantastic power couple for treating bronchitis.
7) Oregano Oil - This essential oil has many versatile qualities which include anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, antioxidant, anti-oxidant and many more healing properties. Due to its rich amount of vitamins and minerals like A,C, E and zinc, it is well known as one of nature’s super antibiotic- great for preventing the cold and flu and fighting off infections of all sorts. It is extremely helpful in loosening up phlegm and mucous in the sinuses and the respiratory tract and can also be very beneficial in the form of a gargle (drops diluted in water) to help alleviate a sore throat. Definitely keep this one handy!
8) Elderberry - This wonderful herb is great for preventing cold and flu as it is a great immune booster. It has anti-influenza, anti-viral, and anti-inflammatory properties that help to speed up recovery time and decrease the intensity of a cold/flu. Elderberry contains key vitamins like vitamins A, B, and lots of vitamin C, all which help to make it a very powerful remedy for coughs, colds, flus, bacterial, and viral infections.
9) Chicken Soup - Yes, it really does help as it can help to decongest sinuses and move mucous out and can warm up a real achy body. If you are not a chicken soup fan, soups or broths that contain vegetables like carrots and spices like garlic turmeric, and oregano can be very effective against the cold and flu as they all contain anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-oxidant properties.
10) Drink tea! Lemon and ginger tea have anti-microbial and warming effects, it can also settle an upset stomach and ease a sore throat. Other tea options might include peppermint tea for easing congestion, headaches, and tummy aches, and for relaxation as well. Yarrow tea is also wonderful for easing the symptoms of a cold or flu. For those that don’t really care for tea, you can’t go wrong with a simple cup of hot water with lemon and honey, as it is always effective against those unwanted cold and flu symptoms.
